The decision, taken by a majority of six votes in favor and five against, restores Lula’s political rights and makes him a possible candidate for the 2022 presidential elections. The ruling has been celebrated by Lula’s supporters and the Brazilian left, while the right and critics of Lula have expressed their discontent. Operation Car Wash has led to the conviction of numerous politicians and businessmen for corruption in Brazil.
